Innovation and education go hand-in-hand. While cutting-edge ideas can bloom from all kinds of people and places, it almost always takes a team with a strong background in science, tech, engineering and math to turn concepts into concrete products. And that starts with technical education. To help bolster students in Richmond and other nearby school districts, especially those in underserved populations, Virginia Commonwealth University is launching a new Center for Innovation in STEM Education that will provide hands-on exploration and education. The center, located in the Science Museum of Virginia, aims to provide improved and expanded STEM education to diverse students, including many from lower income families. And the advanced teaching and insights from VCU could help today’s grade school students become tomorrow’s innovation heroes.
