Shifting Our Thinking About Educational Technology: How to Place Tasks Before Apps

Given the right environment and support, how many students do you think are capable of high levels of education achievement? How much do you think students vary from one another in how they learn? These are just a few of the questions asked in a Digital Promise/Learner Variability Project national survey, “Learning in the 21st Century: How Teachers View Students’ Potential and Their Learning Experience”. This edWebinar highlights key findings from the survey that focused on learner variability, tailored instruction, use of edtech, and what informs teacher practice.

Equity has long been a priority for school systems prior to 2020; however, the pandemic has focused attention on the continuing need to create more equitable education environments. Simply putting more devices in students’ hands is not enough; they deserve access to an equitable education–including best-in-class learning solutions and technologies. These solutions must be inclusively designed, giving students multiple ways to create, engage, and participate in constructing knowledge regardless of ability, income, language, location, or identity.

When attempting to understand this topic three important questions come to mind. What are best practices for developing a culture of evidence? How do you identify and explain related political issues to assessment practices? What are the ethical practices necessary to conduct assessment? In this webinar, we explore the necessary elements for creating a culture of evidence, share strategies for following institutional and divisional procedures and policies regarding ethical assessment, identify the political considerations of assessment, and outline strategies for conducting culturally responsive assessment for and with diverse populations.
