Exploring Preparation and Support for K-12 Online Teachers

The vast majority of new teachers entering the profession each year begin without the skills needed to be successful in online learning environments, although many of these educators may find themselves teaching in a blended or online setting at some point during their careers (Kennedy & Archambault, 2012; NEA, 2006, p. 3). Teacher education programs and school district professional development offerings often provide online options for educators but fail to provide the preparation necessary for high quality online instruction in the K-12 classroom.
