VR Education takes first steps into Asia with South Korean deal

VR Education has taken its first steps into the Asian market through an agreement with D'Carrick, a South Korean immersive digital content company. The deal is worth €70,000 a year to the Waterford-based group over a three year period. It provides VR Education with an important entry point into the South Korean education market for its ‘Engage’ platform. The platform, which the group launched in December last year, can be used in schools, universities, and corporate training to teach subjects in a virtual reality environment. Meanwhile, D'Carrick uses technologies to create educational programmes for the South Korean education system, providing continuous innovation across various VR and AR platforms. Under the terms of the deal, D’Carrick will roll out the ‘Engage’ platform to a set number of students in South Korea, with additional fees should it exceed this number. In addition, it will resell the platform, with 30pc of revenue from sales going to VR Education. David Whelan, CEO of VR Education, said: "Our goal is to transform the future of education globally by implementing new methods and techniques to make learning available to everyone, everywhere.”

edX Passes 110 Million Total Global Enrollments, Up 29 Million Year-Over-Year

edX, the education movement for restless learners, today announced a significant milestone in their growth in 2020. edX grew from 81 million total global enrollments in 2019, to over 110 million global enrollments in 2020, a record 29 million increase. The number of new registered users grew even faster at 161% year-over-year, to 35 million total individual users. Individual courses offered passed 3,000. In 2020 edX saw an average of 400,000 learners per day engaged in course content. This year alone, edX reached another milestone of issuing 2.1 million verified course certificates and offered 149 different credit pathways. More than 39 million hours of video were collectively consumed.
