The humble USB provides learning support for offline families as the Endless OS Foundation launches the Endless Key

prnewswire | September 30, 2020

In this unprecedented 2020–21 school year dominated by COVID-19, millions of K–12 students and families are struggling to adapt to remote learning and improve their access to education when secure, stable internet access is not a given. Inequality of access to technology and connectivity is a long-standing issue that has been brought to the forefront due to the pandemic. The Endless Key is a solution specially created for these students and families as an offline resource, while they await a broadband-for-all solution that could take up to a decade to arrive.

Like most K-12 school systems, Alaska’s Matanuska-Susitna Borough School District finds funding to be a constant struggle.

The district’s IT department, which consists of 32 full-time staff members, must support nearly 14,000 devices used by 18,800 students and approximately 2,200 staff in 47 schools and three additional facilities spread across a geographic area the size of West Virginia. This task would be nearly impossible without improving the maturity of its IT management. But with the help of certain tools and processes, Senior IT Program Manager Justin Michaud and his colleagues are delivering more value to the district—while adopting a “customer-focused” mindset.
