Massachusetts Passed A New Education Funding Plan. Now What?

WGBH.org | December 05, 2019

Massachusetts' public school funding formula has changed for the first time since 1993, thanks to a new law passed by the state legislature that adds $1.5 billion to schools, and aims for more equity across the state. How will that money get spent? Former Education Secretary Paul Reville joined Boston Public Radio to break down what happens next. "This will have particular effect in our poorest communities in the commonwealth," he said. "But just having more money doesn't necessarily mean you're going to do a good job. It's how you spend the money that's going to make all the difference." The new formula aims to reduce inequities between districts by infusing more money in communities that face larger costs in special education, employee health care, low-income students, and English language learners.

Zacks Small-Cap Research Initiates Coverage on Genius Group Limited

Genius Group Limited | July 05, 2022

Genius Group Limited , a world-leading entrepreneur Edtech and education group, today announced that Zacks Small-Cap Research , a division of Zacks Investment Research and a leading equity research firm, has initiated coverage of GNS at a valuation of $18.40, above the recent $9-10 trading range. 2022 revenue is estimated at USD 34.3 million, a 268% increase over 2021, and looking ahead, expects GNS to generate positive earnings by the 3rd quarter of 2023. Brad Sorensen, CFA, Senior Equity Research Analyst with Zacks/SCR, states that GNS is on a mission to change the way people experience online education by making it more about the student. Through technology, vision, and a unique approach, he feels that Genius is bringing AI-involved learning to the masses. He views GNS as having a great management team and a solid balance sheet, believes the aggressiveness GNS has shown in expanding its offering is encouraging and sees the integration of acquisitions as vital to the company’s success. In an effort to expand its offerings and broaden its portfolio, particularly in the U.S., GNS acquired four companies to give GNS a total of eight companies under its umbrella and a roster of offerings that can reach people at virtually any stage of life. Sorensen recognizes that the size of the potential market is enormous, with one estimate of $10 trillion in 2030, as the interest in virtual learning has undoubtedly increased as a result of the remote lives many people have been forced to live over the last couple of years. He points out that GNS may be doing things in a different way that might be able to connect in a more effective way with students, both adults and children, who have had a lack of success with some of the other existing providers. From his point of view, GNS appears to be offering a different way of learning, one that engages students by learning what they love and teaching them in that way. Normally, with a company such as GNS, Sorensen would often look to comparable companies for valuation metrics. But, acknowledging market conditions as of late and that he views Genius as a unique company, he elected to use the discounted cash flow method to come up with what he believes is a fair, and fairly conservative, valuation for GNS. The two biggest risks to his investment thesis are the successful integration of the four new companies and the timing of the U.S. rollout. About Genius Group Limited Genius Group is a Singapore-based Edtech and education company engaged in providing educational services in over 200 countries. Fullstack Academy Joins AWS Authorized Training Partner Program

Fullstack Academy | September 15, 2022

Fullstack Academy, a national tech education provider, announced today it has joined the Amazon Web Services Authorized Training Partner program. AWS Training Partners (ATP) are the only organizations that can deliver or offer official AWS Training through their AWS Authorized Instructors (AAI). As an ATP, Fullstack Academy will integrate AWS Training and Certification into several of its existing bootcamp programs. Starting in 2022, students enrolled in the Data Analytics Training Accelerator (DATA), a no-cost training program offered in partnership with NYC’s Tech Talent Pipeline, will receive the training needed to earn the AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner Certification. The certification validates an individual’s cloud fluency and foundational AWS knowledge, establishing credibility within their organization or qualifying for new career opportunities. Training for this certification will be rolled out to additional Fullstack Academy bootcamps later this year. The organization also plans to offer this training standalone to new students and alumni. Cloud computing skills are in high demand, with 85% of organizations reporting the need for employees with cloud expertise, according to a 2020 report from 451 Research, part of S&P Global Market Intelligence. “Adoption of cloud computing services grew 25% in 2021 alone, and we’re seeing companies using AWS to become more agile, improve scalability and innovate more quickly,For many tech professionals, cloud computing skills are essential to landing a job and advancing their career. By becoming an AWS Authorized Training Partner, Fullstack Academy is better able to support our students and alumni looking to develop the in-demand skills needed to implement cloud solutions.” Jerrad Tausz, CEO of Fullstack Academy. Before Fullstack became an ATP, its students and graduates were seeking AWS Certifications outside of the bootcamp to complement their credentials. As I was preparing for a job search in the information technology field, I wanted to set myself up for success and demonstrate my knowledge of cloud computing to potential employers, said Sean Borry, a Fullstack Academy graduate now working as a Consultant at Deloitte. The technical knowledge and professional confidence I gained as a student at Fullstack Academy, combined with becoming an AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner, played a huge part in me being able to secure a job in the industry. Borry graduated from the Fullstack Academy Cybersecurity Bootcamp in May 2022. “In today’s increasingly cloud-driven world, many of our students and alumni are looking to bolster their cloud expertise with AWS Certifications,” Tausz added. “We’re thrilled to incorporate the training into our offerings.” According to a 2022 report from Enterprise Strategy Group, 83% of learners reported increased job security as a result of AWS Certifications, and 74% reported higher earnings. Employers also report benefitting from AWS Certifications. Among IT leaders that employ staff with AWS certifications, 90% say productivity improved, 89% report faster troubleshooting, and 86% report improved cloud security. Professionals with cloud skills are fundamentally key to helping organizations transform their business and thrive which is why these skills are in such high demand, said Maureen Lonergan, Vice President, AWS Training and Certification. “AWS Training and Certification, along with ATPs like Fullstack Academy, aim to equip the builders of today and tomorrow with the knowledge to tap into the power of the cloud.
