Google school reviews? We can't take them seriously
If you were to pick an institution in public life that didn't need to be further reviewed, you would think a school would be a good start. From formal visits from the inspectorate, to quality improvement officers sent in for classroom observations, to peer-to-peer review, the modern school gets examined constantly. And while the Rate My Teacher phenomenon, popular a few years ago, let the disgruntled have a go at members of staff, schools themselves had missed the modern obsession of reviewing everything. It's like TripAdvisor for schools – except people who leave holiday reviews on that website tend to have actually been to the place. Google school reviewers leave forthright views without necessarily ever having gone through the school gates.

K-12 education is at the beginning of what many hope will be a systemic transformation toward personalized learning. Across the nation, schools are experimenting with personalized learning to better meet each student’s unique needs and ensure broader access to a world-class education. Many of these experiments have been captured in individual case studies and other vivid narratives, but the field lacks a broad-based understanding of how personalized learning is emerging in classrooms across the United States.

To celebrate Teacher Appreciation Week, Savvas Learning Company, a K-12 next-generation learning solutions leader, has partnered with EveryoneOn.org to honor teachers by helping close the digital divide for students from low-income families. EveryoneOn.org is a nonprofit that works to connect low-income families to affordable Internet service, computers, and other digital resources. "Over the past year, as students' homes became their classrooms, we have developed a deeper gratitude for everything teachers do. We've also seen during this time how a lack of reliable Internet access at home can serve as a barrier to learning, placing students in vulnerable communities at risk of falling behind their peers," said Bethlam Forsa, CEO of Savvas Learning Company. "We can't think of a more meaningful way to honor teachers for all their hard work than by doing something that really matters to them: helping advance digital equity." About Savvas Learning Company At Savvas, we believe learning should inspire.
