4 strategies for boosting creativity in education

eschoolnews | May 29, 2019

At San Lorenzo Unified School District, our 12-hour teacher tech academies are centered on the 4 C’s: collaboration, communication, creativity and critical thinking. I ask teachers to introduce themselves by stating their name, site, grade or subject and the “C” that is of greatest interest to them. Invariably, a good percentage choose creativity.Teaching creativity seems to present a catch-22. Teachers who don’t consider themselves to be particularly creative don’t think they can teach their students to be creative. On the other hand, highly creative teachers find it difficult to articulate how they developed their creativity, much less prescribe a strategy for passing creativity along to others. Creativity is more than being artistic or expressive. Creativity is the ability to make new things or think of new ideas. It’s not limited to the fine arts or performing arts. It must be part of everything we endeavor to do, especially in the innovation age. Creativity in education cannot simply be about changing STEM to STEAM by adding an “A” for art. It must be a reason for collaboration, a hallmark of communication and a result of critical thinking.

Tinyhood | September 21, 2021

Tinyhood, the leading online education platform for parents, has launched a first-of-its-kind class Sleep 101: The Baby Sleep Solution for parents of babies 4-24 months. Taught by renowned sleep consultant Natalie Willes, this online class will teach parents to help their babies start sleeping 10-12 hours a night and taking predictable, longer naps in a matter of days. For parents whose babies are struggling with short naps, nighttime or early wakings, or need to be rocked or nursed to sleep, this class gives parents a scientifically proven, step-by-step method that will help their babies learn the important skill of independent sleep for both bedtime and naps, along with access to moderated office hours with the expert. Plus, unlike in other online sleep classes, Tinyhood's class covers how to handle the most common troubleshooting scenarios such as regressions, illnesses, nap transitions, travel, and more -- through the toddler years. Taught by a sleep expert who's helped over 10,000 families, this program is truly as close as you can get to private sleep advice with one of the world's greatest sleep coaches. "Tinyhood saw an opportunity to create a next-generation virtual class that combines the immersive experience of working with a sleep expert with the convenience and quality of best in class online learning," said co-founder and CEO Becky Miller. "With our professionally produced courses, we're able to provide an unmatched on-demand viewing experience complete with detailed schedules, worksheets, and moderated office hours with our expert. You can even follow along with real families as they implement the sleep program." Tinyhood's courses are taught by the industry's leading experts in order to give parents the most reliable information. The platform is created with the busy, modern parent in mind. All courses are 100 percent flexible, allowing parents to learn at their own pace and in the comfort of their own homes.
